Even at higher temperatures, the hardness of WC cemented carbides is largely retained up to approximately 500-600 \u00b0C in an oxidizing atmosphere. Above this temperature, the oxidation rate increases significantly, especially in variants with cobalt binders.<\/li>\n<li><strong>High hot hardness<\/strong>: WC retains more of its hardness than many steels at high cutting temperatures and pressure loads; for very high temperatures, ceramic materials or special coatings may be more suitable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Good thermal conductivity<\/strong>\u00a0: Typical values \u200b\u200bfor hard metals with WC and metallic binder (e.g., Co or Ni) are often in the range of\u00a0<strong>60\u201380 W\/(m\u00b7K)<\/strong>. These materials dissipate heat more effectively than ceramics and high-speed steels. However, the following aspects should be considered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong oxidizing acids (e.g. concentrated HNO\u2083) and halogenated acids or complex ionic media that can attack both the WC hardening phase and the binder.<\/li>\n<li>The susceptibility to corrosion depends heavily on the binder: nickel binders typically show better resistance in corrosive media than pure cobalt.<\/li>\n<li>At high temperatures and in the presence of oxygen, the material oxidizes: WC reacts to WO\u2083, carbon components to CO\/CO\u2082. This oxidation process significantly limits its use in oxidizing atmospheres above approximately 600-800 \u00b0C.<\/li>\n<li>When in contact with ferrous materials, especially under high temperatures or pressure, diffusion phenomena occur that lead to wear (e.g., iron incorporation, chemical reaction, softening, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Surface coatings (e.g., TiN, Al\u2082O\u2083, TiAlN) can further enhance chemical and thermal resistance and allow the material properties to be specifically tailored to particular operating conditions (steels, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, aggressive
